Welcome to Mrs. Estes' Class.
I am the primary math teacher for 5th grade. This year the team is departmentalized so the students switch class similar to middle school. I teach math to all 3 classes and Language Arts to my homeroom in the afternoon. We are excited to enter into the spring semester, there are several things planned for students to include a field trip, a graduation, a Fifth Grade Day, a dance and much more. I am proud of the academic process the students have made thusfar and I am confident that in May they will be very successful on their Math SOL. Class Announcements Geometry and The 2nd Nine Week ExpectationsWe have concluded our computation and decimal units with approximately 83% mastery. We will revisit these concepts again later in the year. I will begin the 2nd nine weeks introducing basic geometry concepts: angles, triangles, 2-dimensional plane figures, and 3-dimensional solids. I anticipate great success with this unit as this is a more hands on and enjoyable topic for most students. With that being said, I am no longer allowing students to make up work during class or for homework the next day; if they fail to turn in their assignments on time it will result in a zero in the grade book. Please check your child's agenda daily to ensure they have completed their math homework. Back to School NightPlease join the 5th Grade Team for Back to School Night, Thursday September 24th. You will meet all your child's teachers and be able to sign up for a conference.

Class Links  Internet SafetyThis is a great site for parents and students to use together. The website teaches internet safety using games and activities. MathThis is a good site for online interactive educational games. Please use the fifth grade math section to review any topics previously covered in class. ReadingGreat site to reading passages that will prepare you for weekly cold reads. You may use the stories in this site as part of you 20 minute reading log. Study IslandStudy Island is an SOL prep website. For every Reading or Math objective that you successfully complete at home you will receive extra credit. |
